What to bring to Birthing Center?

I have received my diaper bag in the mail finally. Totally in love with it. Jared? Not so much. He's not happy I got one that he "cannot hold". Pshshs..You will help carry stuff dear Husband. He's not fond of flowers apparently. But I figured I'd be the one holding it 99% of the time, so I get to pick it out. It's a simple cheap Skip Hop diaper bag from Target. I originally wanted a custom one I fell in love with on Etsy, but the seller/maker stopped getting in the fabric I was so in love with. But they all do the same job right?

Now that I have it and officially in that 3rd trimester AND I like to get things done early that needed, I wanted to start filling it to take to the birthing center.
'
  • Clothing for the little one. Like 3 outfits? Should be good right?
  • Blanket. Although, Tennessee Summer heat in July? Maybe an Aden & Anais blanket.
  • Baby carseat
  • Baby book so I can do the foot prints and have some help doing so.
  • Baby Grooming kit. I'd probably just use the hair brush. I'm pretty sure my child will have a head full of hair.
  • 5-6 diapers and wipes.
  • socks and a hat just in case?

Now for my bag:

  • My precious camera and charged up battery and an extra memory card. Yes, I was photos of everything.  I'm THAT kinda mom to be. lol
  • Cell phone, charged up
  • Snacks and Drinks(Yes, I'll be allowed to eat. One of the many benefits of laboring/birthing at a birthing center)
  • makeup, toothbrush..a little grooming bag with a hair brush and lots of pony tail holders, deodorant, etc
  • something to labor in like a light weight dress
  • something to birth in like a bathing suit or bra for a water birth.
  • cheap big and comfy underwear and a nursing bra.
  • breast pads
  • going home outfit... sweatpants and a tank top. I'm not wearing anything fancy or cute.
  • laptop.. more so for my sister to be entertained with
  • CHAPSTICK and massage oil

I can't think of anything else. I think I may need to do some research....

    1. I'm actually very much against mittens and my midwives do not recommend them either.

A babies hands are their best friends in utero and when you cover them after birth, your taking away a friend(s) they've always known. And It's best to learn to cut or file the nails anyway. Makes sense since a lot of babies have their hands in mouth on ultrasounds..like mine.

So, I haven't haven't even invested in pair other than sleepers that have them built in. lol

  2. those are a lot easier to put on then mittens anyway. sometimes their wee little hands get chilly, too. i often didnt have the heart to clip her little nails, they looked so pretty and i didnt want to mess up! now of course i dont have a choice because she loves getting messy and digging her nails into mah boobs.

    1. Around my due date, It'll be around 120 degrees with 80% humidity.. so I'm not too worried about mittens or socks or hats and all that. I may bring a light knit hat and clothes but with the weather, I don't want to bundle him up to much. The weather will be killer.

I'm sure when his nails get super long, I'll clip or file them. lol.
